This book never left me bored! It left me wanting to keep reading even though I had other things to do or prioritize. I would be nearing the end of a chapter, but something would happen where I would have to continue to see how things ended. Each character had something that readers could relate to: independence, kindness, courage, humour, etc. The novel allows readers to not only read what is happening, but it lets them walk with the characters throughout their adventures as if they were in the story as well. I loved where this novel took me and how it transformed reading into a journey. - Kassidy

Great book with an incredible plot line that only gets better and more captivating the further into the book you get. This book reminds me of a classic adventure series but with modern characters that I find easy to relate to. Each chapter will see you getting more and more invested in the main character's struggles and development. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to be drawn completely into the book they're reading. I have great hopes for more books in this series. - Jonathan

The Forsaken
Book 2

Training to become a knight is no easy task even for the most gifted at Blackthrush Academy. Several students find their journey to be much harder after getting tangled in the unseen war spanning the realm. The delicate balance between the two sides could be destroyed by a single wrong step and for the students at Blackthrush, a wrong step seems imminent with a spy in their midst. Things only get more complicated when the students run afoul of a dangerous cult during their holiday at a traditional festival. Attempting to navigate the sea of metaphorical tripwires will push them to their limits, especially once they realize they can’t trust anyone.

I don't how Jarret Madden managed to do it, but somehow he has created a sequel thats even better than the first book of this series! I love how the characters grew throughout the book and I can't wait to see how they continue to grow in book three. I also thoroughly enjoyed how the author added new perspectives and wrote some of the chapters from the points of view of new characters. I hope he continues with this theme in his next book. Overall the entire book was wonderful and I could hardly put it down, however where the book really shines is in it's ending. The end of the book left me on the edge of my seat and I cannot wait to read book three! - Brodie

A great second book in the 6th Order series. It continues building the world, introduces a few new characters and delves deep into a world of magic. There are suprising plot twists, new points of view and epic battles. Overall a fantastic read that keeps you engaged until the end and has you wanting to read the next book. - Chandal

Queens and Pawns
Book 3

Disaster has struck. Blackthrush has fallen. With the king’s army tracking down those who survived the brutal attack on the Academy, the heroes must do whatever they can to survive. The team has been fractured, separated in the attack, unsure if their friends have escaped or if they lie cold in the snow. Cody and Ember lead a small group across the channel to the city of Vantan and Ember’s family home. As they try to keep the Fall of Blackthrush secret, they are thrust into a dangerous game of politics and sabotage when the leaders of foreign nations arrive to renew their alliances with King Farren. With so many powers in play, all seeking to climb to the top, Cody, Ember and the others must take great care not to slip up, lest they risk the destruction of all they fought for. On a divergent path, Levi, Kana and their remaining allies must find a way to stay one step ahead of Farren’s hunters, even as they trek across a barren, frozen landscape that tests all they have left. Secrets are uncovered and revelations found in unexpected places out in the frigid north. But will they be able to evade capture long enough to put their new knowledge to use?

I've been following this author and his books since the beginning. The first two books were amazing, but this one was my absolute favourite. The emotional journey this book took me on was impeccable. The reader was introduced to a whole new side of their favourite characters. I love how this author knows how to balance steady and exciting. When there wasn't peace, there were trials, and when the characters weren't fighting or running, they were growing, maturing, and healing. How the author connected different storylines and points of view was august. I have no bad things to say about this book. I'm just ecstatic to see where he takes this series next. - Kassidy

This is me, if for some reason you couldn't guess that

Jarret Madden is a fantasy author from middle-of-nowhere, Saskatchewan. He grew up loving fantastical stories of magic and adventure, such as Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and The Inheritance Cycle. These stories and others helped him to create his own world and write down the adventures of his own characters.

Jarret is a young author, born just before the turn of the century. He has a brother and a sister, both of whom helped him immensely on his journey to become an author. He enjoys classic author stuff, like reading, but he also enjoys playing many sports and games, along with occasionally making videos on Youtube. When not writing or trapped in the wild realm that is his imagination, Jarret is often found playing piano, singing, watching hockey and/or dumb Youtube videos and occasionally drawing comics.

The Sixth Order Soundtrack Project

For some time, I have wanted to create my own music. I wasn't sure what kind, or how to do it, but then I realized I have a perfect opportunity here. Having published two books in my Sixth Order series, there is a lot to draw from and everyone loves soundtracks, so I thought I'd give it a try. It's a bit out of my comfort zone and I really have no idea what I'm doing, but it is a lot of fun.

A large part of why I love soundtracks is that each person and concept has their own unique theme. You get to know the themes and you can hear when they're blended together into other songs. I'm hoping I can replicate some of that with my attempts at composing and you'll be hearing similar melodies in some of the songs.

More songs will be coming, as I'm going to try to have a song for all the main characters and the important plot points of each book. Stay tuned and hope you enjoy them.

Kar-Sang Theme

The Night's FangsArtist Name
00:00 / 01:10

I wasn't actually planning on doing this track so soon, but while fooling around, I found this really creepy melody which I made even creepier by using some strange woodwind instrument. It's a short track, but you can tell it's foul and unearthly, a great fit for the vampiric Kar-Sang. It invokes feelings of something hunting, sneaking in the darkness, something you don't want to catch you.

Farren's Theme

The Main Theme

War UnseenArtist Name
00:00 / 02:09

This track starts off slowly with the theme of the Elder Gem before picking up into a slightly quicker line that has a sort of mournful sound, while having a march in the background. I wanted to get across the sort of silent dissent that the realm is in as both sides prepare for the war they all know is coming.

Levi's Theme

A Carefree SoulArtist Name
00:00 / 01:50

This second track has a lively, bouncy sound, perfect to introduce the main character, Levi, and his fun-loving self. It then transitions into a more melodic line that hints at the journey to come. Then, of course, I had to add in the dramatic Elder Gem theme again, mixed in with Levi's bouncy notes. The ending has a more mournful sound again, as in his path lies many sorrows.

Travel Theme

The Road To BlackthrushArtist Name
00:00 / 01:23

This fast-paced, catchy track is what I was envisioning when the main quartet was journeying through the countryside. It's not the track for when they face danger or enemies, rather it's the adventurous ambiance of the actual journey itself. It kinda captures the slightly more upbeat tone at the beginning of the first book, showing the optimism of Levi and some of the others, before they are thrown headfirst into the large-scale conflict.

Free Knights' Theme

better map.png
vyrelia.jpg
The King's MightArtist Name
00:00 / 02:29

The marching drums and staccato strings immediately tell of a strong, orderly military under the King. I wanted to make it clear that Farren is a powerful force, with an iron grip on the realm. The main anthem-like melody evokes a sense of dread and foreboding. Just by listening, you can tell that this track isn't meant for when things are going well.

A Fallen OrderArtist Name
00:00 / 02:08

There's a sort of wistful, sad spirit to this track, as it tells of the legend of the Free Knights and their terrible downfall. The memory of the Knights still lives on, and though it has been tarnished by the King, many still recall fondly the days when the knightly order protected the realm. Of course, I had to use a slowed down, lilted rendition of the Elder Gem theme throughout, as the artifact is directly linked to the Knights and their fall from grace.

Miri's Theme

Words Of SilenceArtist Name
00:00 / 01:50

This one was more difficult to create. I knew it needed to have a much different sound to encapsulate all of Miri's character and, although I don't think I got it all, I believe I got some of it right. I wanted it to be, well quieter, for obvious reasons, but I also wanted it to have a pleasant, yet slightly mysterious, almost whimsical feel to it, drawing from her background growing up in the forest. Yet, as it goes on, it swells up, telling of the strength and power hidden behind the silence. Miri is an interesting character and I really wanted the track to show that.
